India's data centre market maintained its expansion in 2024, adding 191 MW of IT capacity over the past year, with absorption reaching 407 MW, as reported by Savills. Real estate advisory firm Savills India highlighted that the interest in data centres within India is consistently growing, influenced by elements such as the rising use of cloud computing, the proliferation of big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and the swift advancement of ecommerce and digital transformation efforts.

"In 2024, India experienced an intake of 407 MW IT capacity and an increase of 191 MW IT capacity in major cities," the consultant stated.

Savills emphasized that this demand was driven by hyperscalers, BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance), IT & ITeS, and service industries, all of which depend greatly on data center operators for colocation and associated services.

As of 2024, the operational capacity was 1,110 MW IT, indicating a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 percent since 2014.

India is witnessing an increase in data centre land deals, propelled by rising demand and the expansions of data centre operators and hyperscalers acquiring land in major cities. "In 2024, more than 200 acres of land were purchased in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru," stated the consultant.
